The rusty ring

‘The ring from the end of his nose!’  The he, in this case, was the great fat pig that lived in the bright green hutch at the bottom of the BFG’s garden. Apparently, one night, just as the BFG was leaving to deliver some excellent dreams, the pig grabbed hold of his coat tails because he wanted to see the world. So as the BFG whisked over the countryside, the pig hung on for dear life. Hoping to catch a view of a different world.

Until, he could hold on no longer and fell off in a puddle in Greenland! Now this was a very cold puddle and there were very hard, sharp rocks in the middle of it. The pig shivered for days afterwards but the worst of it was the ring on the end of his nose cracked down the middle and fell off into the puddle.

Over the centuries the ring found its way via snow and glaciers to many parts of the world. Until, one day, a little girl called Louise picked it up and took it to school.

“I wonder what this is?” she asked. After much scratching and cleaning the words at the beginning of this story were revealed in the metal.
